The items are not solid gold.
The piece receives alkaline electrolytics 3 times to obtain a 9, 14 or 18 kt gold coating. In this process, between 3 and 4 microns of gold thickness is achieved.
The previous base is made of brass instead of nickel, avoiding allergic reactions.
Brass is an alloy of several ductile metals, including silver, which also provide the best base for subsequent electroplating.
