The AP-335 is an enterprise-grade 802.11ac Wave 2 wireless access point. It features dual-band 4x4 MU-MIMO radios (up to 1,733 Mbps on 5GHz and 800 Mbps on 2.4GHz), 12 integrated down tilt antennas, and multi-gigabit Ethernet. It requires Power over Ethernet (PoE). Deployment and Management
The AP-335 can operate in two primary modes:
- Controller-Managed: Requires a physical or virtual Aruba Mobility Controller to provision and manage the AP.
- Instant (IAP): The AP operates autonomously and clusters with other Aruba Instant APs, allowing the network to be managed through a master AP without needing a hardware controller.
Note: For domestic or standalone environments, factory-resetting a decommissioned enterprise AP allows it to function as a highly capable home Wi-Fi device, though it requires some basic network configuration. I have included the Factory reset instructions below.
If you only have the AP-335 unit itself with no controller, the physical reset method is your only option. Since you do not have any extra hardware, you will need a few standard household items to complete the setup.
Required Items
- A paperclip or pin to press the reset button.
- A Power over Ethernet (PoE) injector/switch OR a 12V DC power adapter to turn it on.
- An Ethernet cable to connect it to your home router. [1, 2]
Step-by-Step Factory Reset
- Unplug the power or Ethernet cable from the AP.
- Press and hold the reset button inside the pinhole using your paperclip.
- Plug the power back in while keeping the button pressed.
- Keep holding the button for 15 seconds until the System LED flashes.
- Release the button and wait 3 to 5 minutes for it to boot. [1, 2]
Post-Reset Configuration
Once reset, the AP-335 will automatically boot into Aruba Instant mode (standalone/virtual controller) if it is running modern firmware.
- It will broadcast a temporary Wi-Fi network named "SetMeUp-XX:XX:XX" or "Instant-XX:XX:XX".
- Connect to that Wi-Fi network using a phone or laptop.
- Open a web browser and go to
https://arubanetworks.com. - Log in using the default credentials: Username admin and Password admin (or the device's Serial Number as the password on newer firmware).
