DESCRIPTION

A Chinese carved jade or hardstone figurine depicting a standing bearded male figure traditionally associated with an immortal or scholarly subject. The carving uses the natural variation of the stone, combining creamy white and pale celadon tones with prominent brown and russet areas. The figure is shown wearing long robes with incised scroll decoration, while the upper body features folded arms, a long finely incised beard and carefully defined facial features. The contrasting russet areas have been incorporated into the clothing and details, adding visual depth and character. A compact late Qing carving with attractive natural coloration and traditional Chinese figural imagery.
