Rare British BRUFORD and HARDY 12 Piece / Knife & Fork Boxed Set Silverplate VGC

Includes velvet lined folding oak storage box made specifically for this set. The hasp on the box latch is missing, otherwise in good condition.
Bruford was a 19th century cuttler and maker of wood carpentry planes. About 1895 the company changed names and (I assume ownership) to become Bruford & Hardy which went out of business in 1941. There is a dearth of other information on this company on the web, though I have run across a few other forms of cutlery made by this company.
These pieces are all marked with the BRUFORD & HARDY name followed by the letters "VS". I've researched this and come up empty as to it's meaning. All pieces are made from a single piece of metal. I have acid tested and verified that plating is > 90% silver content but beyond that I cannot say.
