The Grumman Hellcat was designed from the beginning to take back the skies over the Pacific from the Japanese Zero. Not as manoeuvrable as the smaller Zero, the Hellcat's speed and firepower usually won the day. In fact, with a kill ratio of 23:1 the Hellcat can claim to be the most effective fighter aircraft ever built.
