DESCRIPTION

A Japanese Meiji Period cloisonne vase of slender bottle form with a distinctive lime green enamel ground. The principal panel depicts a bird perched among flowering branches above a dense arrangement of colorful flowers and foliage, including pink and white blossoms. The reverse is more sparsely decorated with tall flowering plants and leaves. Fine metal outlines define the multicolored enamel decoration, while patterned borders and metal mounts finish the flared mouth and foot. Despite the visible enamel damage, the vase retains strong decorative appeal and vibrant period character.

COLLECTOR'S NOTE

Japanese cloisonne was produced to a high artistic standard during the Meiji Period, with bird and flower subjects among the most characteristic decorative themes. The combination of detailed wirework, colorful enamels and naturalistic imagery made these wares particularly popular during the late 19th century.
