This selection is one of 403 short radio programmes produced by the Royal Norwegian Information Service in New York City, USA. during the years 1942-1947. The series, called 'The Spirit of the Vikings', was aimed at the American public, and attempted to show how Norway was contributing to the Allied cause, on the home front, through its merchant navy and through military training and intelligence.

Condition: VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS, unworn and shiny, no scratches light scuffs, label has some flaking from water damage. Plays very quiet some ticks. May need cleaning

Mrs. Gladys M. Petch of 108 East Fifty-sixth Street, radio consultant for the Royal Norwegian Information Services, who broadcasts over WNYC and other stations, received yesterday King Haakon VII's Freedom Cross from Martin Bolstad, acting Norwegian Consul General. The award was made at a luncheon in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel attended by representatives of American broadcasting systems and New York radio stations. Mr. Bolstad said that the decoration was for Mrs. Petch's broadcasting services in behalf of Norway during the war. She had received the Medal of St. Olav with scroll, he noted, for earlier broadcasting activities. Mrs. Petch was British born, he said, but had made a specialty for the last twenty years of broadcasting about "that little corner of the earth, Norway, and had continued to work for it when it had seemed to cease to exist after the German invasion."
