Vintage 1973 Dell paperback edition of Elizabeth George Speare’s classic Newbery Award-winning historical novel The Witch of Blackbird Pond.

Set in colonial Connecticut in the late seventeenth century, the novel follows Kit Tyler, a young woman newly arrived from Barbados whose independence and friendship with an ostracized Quaker woman put her at odds with the rigid Puritan community around her.

Originally published in 1958, The Witch of Blackbird Pond won the 1959 Newbery Medal and has remained one of the best-known works of American historical fiction for younger readers.

This early-1970s Dell edition has a wonderfully atmospheric painted cover—very different visually from later school and trade-paperback editions and appealing as a vintage display copy.
