PAIRE DE MASQUES AFRICAINS EN BRONZE / LAITON – ART TRIBAL
Très belle paire de masques africains décoratifs en métal coulé, chinée ensemble et proposée ici en lot.
Les deux pièces présentent une conception très proche et forment manifestement une paire assortie, tout en représentant deux personnages différents.
Le premier personnage se distingue notamment par une imposante moustache recourbée, tandis que le second possède une ornementation faciale différente. Les deux masques sont richement décorés de motifs géométriques en relief et ajourés, avec une grande coiffe, des éléments triangulaires latéraux et un anneau supérieur permettant leur présentation ou suspension.
Matière
L’aspect, la couleur, le poids et la fabrication sont compatibles avec un alliage cuivreux coulé de type bronze / laiton.
Les deux objets ont été testés à l’aide d’un aimant : aucune partie des masques n’est magnétique.
En l’absence d’analyse métallurgique, je ne peux toutefois pas garantir la composition exacte de l’alliage.

On remarque au revers des deux masques une petite zone métallique grisâtre autour d’un élément de fixation. Sa présence similaire sur les deux pièces laisse penser à un élément lié à leur fabrication ou à leur montage.
Aucun nettoyage abrasif ni polissage n’a été effectué afin de préserver leur aspect et leur patine.

PAIR OF AFRICAN BRONZE / BRASS TRIBAL MASKS
Beautiful matching pair of African cast-metal decorative masks, acquired together and offered as one set.
Both pieces share the same overall construction, dimensions and decorative language but depict two different characters.
One features a distinctive large curved moustache, while the second has different facial ornaments. Both display elaborate openwork and raised geometric decoration, tall headdresses, triangular side elements and an upper hanging loop.
Material
Their appearance, colour, weight and construction are consistent with a cast copper alloy such as bronze or brass.
Both masks have been tested with a magnet: the masks are non-magnetic.
No metallurgical analysis has been carried out, therefore the exact alloy cannot be guaranteed. They are consequently described as probable bronze / brass / copper alloy.
Origin & workmanship
The construction shows characteristics of handcrafted cast work: hollow backs, irregular surfaces, openwork decoration and individual finishing details.
Their style is reminiscent of West African decorative and traditional metalwork, particularly pieces associated with Ghana and the Akan/Ashanti cultural area.

COPPIA DI MASCHERE AFRICANE IN BRONZO / OTTONE – ARTE TRIBALE
Interessante coppia di maschere africane decorative in metallo fuso, acquistate insieme e vendute esclusivamente come coppia.
Le due maschere presentano dimensioni, costruzione e decorazioni molto simili, ma raffigurano due personaggi differenti.
Una presenta caratteristici grandi baffi ricurvi, mentre l’altra possiede differenti ornamenti del viso. Entrambe sono decorate con numerosi motivi geometrici in rilievo e traforati, copricapo allungato, elementi triangolari laterali e anello superiore.
Materiale
Aspetto, colore, peso e tecnica costruttiva risultano compatibili con una lega di rame fusa, tipo bronzo oppure ottone.
Entrambe le maschere sono state controllate con una calamita: il corpo delle maschere non è magnetico.
Non essendo stata effettuata un’analisi metallurgica, la composizione esatta non può essere garantita. Il materiale viene quindi indicato prudentemente come probabile bronzo / ottone / lega di rame.

PAAR AFRIKANISCHE MASKEN AUS BRONZE / MESSING – TRIBAL ART
Sehr dekoratives Paar afrikanischer Masken aus gegossenem Metall, zusammen erworben und hier als zusammengehöriges Set angeboten.
Beide Masken besitzen eine sehr ähnliche Größe, Konstruktion und Ornamentik, stellen jedoch zwei unterschiedliche Figuren dar.
Eine Figur besitzt einen auffälligen geschwungenen Schnurrbart, die zweite eine andere Gesichtsgestaltung. Beide Stücke sind reich mit geometrischen Relief- und Durchbruchmustern verziert und besitzen eine hohe Kopfbedeckung, seitliche Dreieckselemente sowie eine obere Öse.
Material
Aussehen, Farbe, Gewicht und Herstellungsweise sprechen für eine gegossene Kupferlegierung wie Bronze oder Messing.
Beide Masken wurden mit einem Magneten geprüft: die Maskenkörper sind nicht magnetisch.
Da keine metallurgische Untersuchung durchgeführt wurde, kann die genaue Legierung nicht garantiert werden. Das Material wird daher vorsichtig als vermutlich Bronze / Messing / Kupferlegierung beschrieben.
