DESCRIPTION

A Chinese porcelain deep dish or tray decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a continuous literati style landscape scene. The interior features riverside buildings, rocky outcrops, willow trees, and distant mountains rendered in freehand brushwork. The exterior continues the landscape decoration around the sides. The recessed base bears a blue underglaze seal mark. A decorative modern example inspired by traditional Chinese export wares.

COLLECTOR'S NOTE

Blue and white porcelain inspired by classical Chinese landscape painting remained popular throughout the 20th century. Pieces of this type were often produced for decorative use while maintaining traditional porcelain techniques and brush-painted motifs associated with earlier Qing dynasty ceramics.
