This little 5.75 inch tall drum is patterned after the African Djembe (pronounced jembe) but it is not.  the big clue is the dolphin painted on it which is a symbol of good luck and happiness in the Indonesian tradition. the other clue are the dots ( like Pointillism) that surround and enhance the patterns.  Painted in yellow and white these also are typical of Indonesian art. Although it is shaped like a goblet and undoubtedly has a goat skin top and is made of mahogany the decorations give it away. Not African.  Is is surrounded with black rope lacing and has a handle that is meant to be held in one hand while playing with the other.  Please look at the photos and ask questions before bidding as there is no return on it.  Payment is due four days after the end of the auction.
