F-84E Thunderjet 22nd FBS Diecast 1:72 Easy Model EM37109

The 22nd Fighter-Bomber Squadron was another of the numerous F-84E Thunderjet units that sustained the incessant pace of ground attack missions over Korea, a theater of operations where American aviation, despite not dominating pure aerial combat against the agile swept-wing Soviet MiG-15, did exercise almost total superiority in supporting ground troops and interdicting enemy transport. The fuel tanks on the wingtips, visible in the diagram represented in this miniature, significantly expanded the range of action of the F-84E, allowing deeper missions over territory controlled by North Korean and Chinese forces, although at the cost of already limited maneuverability in an aircraft designed above all to fly straight and fast in low-altitude attack missions, where the risk of enemy anti-aircraft fire was a constant threat.
