Your Own Thing" — Complete Vocal Score Music and Lyrics by Hal Hester and Danny Apolinar Publisher: National General Music Publishing Co., Inc. | Original 1968 First Edition | 44 pages | Staple-bound

About This Show: Your Own Thing opened off-Broadway on January 13, 1968 at the Orpheum Theatre and became one of the most celebrated and groundbreaking musicals of its era, running for an extraordinary 937 performances. Loosely based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, this innovative "new rock musical" was produced by Zev Bufman and Dorothy Love, with book and direction by Donald Driver and music and lyrics by Hal Hester and Danny Apolinar.

The show was a sensation, winning the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical of 1968 — beating out Hair for the honor. Clive Barnes of the New York Times called it "cheerful, joyful and blissfully irreverent to Shakespeare and everything else... its vitality and charm are terrific." The show was notable for its pioneering use of slide projections and multimedia elements onstage, making it a landmark of the rock musical genre.
