Description
International buyers, please note: due to the fact that it has become so costly to post items to destinations outside the UK, we have decided to implement the eBay option not to accept returns from International buyers, unless of course we make a mistake. In the 15 years + that we have been trading on eBay we have only ever had two customers who have asked to return an item because they 'changed their mind, or bought the wrong item. We try and keep our prices and postage charges as low as we possibly can, so we cannot afford the losses that we would inevitably incur if we did accept remorse returns. We hope that you understand. Any import or other duties are the responsibility of the buyer.
Please take a moment to read through this listing before buying. Thank you.
This UK Free Post 'Buy it Now' is for a New, Margate Made, Hornby, class 52 'Western', X930, also known as X3008 on later locos, 3-Pole, Short Wheel-base, Powered Bogie, as pictured, together with a new S2290/X8440 'brass' spur gear. This powered bogie would have been made from 1977 onwards. You can look this Powered Bogie up on Hornby service sheet 105 and the class 52 'Western' on service sheets 116 and 240. We have two of these in a sealed bag from Hornby with X3008 on the bag - this 'Buy it Now' is however for one Powered Bogie and one new S2290/X8440 spur gear.
When we tested this Powered Bogie it ran well, but after a bit, and as expected the aluminium spur gear began to slip, so we are offering it for 'spares/repairs', but wee are including a new 'brass' spur gear that you can fit.
Gear slip can be an issue for aluminium spur gears on powered bogies that have not been used for so many years, or only ever tested. It is due to the different expansion and contraction rates of the steel output shaft and the aluminium spur gear. Please check out Hornby Service Sheet number 105 for full information. There are traction tyres on one side.
This short wheel base version is the same length as the long wheel base Powered Bogie X941, but as shown on Hornby service sheet 105, the axles are fitted in the inner set of holes in the metal part of the chassis, hence this bogie is the short wheel base version.
As pictured, the centre wheels which would push onto the axle stubs on the motor frame are not included. This is how these powered bogies were made, and then the centre wheels were added on the production line.
It is very likely that this short wheel-base version (X930/X3008) will probably fit other locos as well, but we don't know which ones without doing even more research. It will probably need a short period of 'running-in'.
