V6 purchase prompts a very reluctant sale of my Alfa Romeo 166 Twin Spark in stunning Spoleto Grigio metallic paint complemented with black leather interior.

She is the now rare 6 speed manual Twin Spark and being one of the latest versions has many of the desirable upgrades and features lavished on this luxury 21 year old Alfa.

I have owned this latest Alfa (my 5th) for 9 years, covering 34000 miles in her of which just 8000 miles in the last 6 years. The car has not missed a beat in that time and I shall be sad to see her go.

The car has a partial service history and I had her serviced at an Alfa Specialist up to 94500 miles. Since then she has been well maintained by myself for basic service items with a local Porsche specialist completing any more complex needs.

The car is in great condition overall and in my opinion is a great example for someone to look after, maintain and lavish a little pampering, money and TLC to enhance it's already great condition. She still drives incredibly well, still feeling smooth, solid, tight, quiet and exciting - as a well looked after Alfa should.

Exterior:
Bodywork and paint is excellent overall with just age related stone chips and marks. Structurally the car is in fine order overall with no reference to any issues at any MOT inspections
  • There is one small bump to the rear left hand corner (see photos) - It has been protected from the elements (had chosen not to repair) and does not detract from the overall look
  • Ends of rear sill/arches have some historic stone chip damage - this again treated and protected with no rust evident
  • There is no rust or rot anywhere on the body
  • Wheels are in very good condition with just some rim marks in line with age and normal driving - tyres all have good treads
Engine and Gearbox:
All in very good order having been regularly maintained with quality bits and fluids changed religiously.

  • Engine - lively and still tight, idles smoothly and revs effortlessly through the range - what a Twin Spark should do!
  • Gearbox - smooth and silky with precise gearchange - the ZF 6 speed in the 166 is the best gearbox I have used from a ratio and feel perspective
  • Clutch - a very slight judder on occasion that I had checked and inspected at the Alfa Specialist @94k - no work recommended and it has not got worse since then - has never impacted my driving enjoyment and experience
  • It's due a cambelt based on time of last one, not mileage
Suspension/Steering/Brakes:
  • Quiet with no unwanted knocks or noises - feels solid and precise on the road (see works below)
  • Brakes are smooth and reassuring with no noises
Interior:

  • Beautifully equipped with black leather that is in very good order (mild wear on driver's seat - see picture)
  • Seats are sporty, supportive and comfortable (electric adjustment and heated)
  • Everything works as it should except the rear passenger window which works intermittently - I had this repaired 2 years ago (a loose connection) so suspect it is this again (not checked)
  • Couple of "sticky" plastic bits that are common on this era of Alfa - nothing too drastic and good replacements can be sourced
  • Original 166 mats in black
Recent Works Completed:

  • May 2026 - new rear exhaust 104700 miles
  • June 2025 - new battery 103000 miles
  • May 2024 - new front flexible exhaust pipe - 100500 miles
  • Sep 2023 - Genuine Alfa front brake discs/pads, rear upper suspension arms - 97500 miles
  • Oct 2021 - New brake pipes and front springs - 96554 miles
  • June 2020 - clutch check and inspection - no action 93660 miles
  • June 2019 - replacement gearbox and new clutch assembly - 87722 miles
In summary, my 166 is a very good, honest original example of this great car that I need a good home for. I don't really want to part with her but the wife has rightly put her foot down! I also have a few other projects on the go.

This car is becoming a very collectable modern classic and one that is still very driveable in it's present state or is a great base to make even better through very little outlay. She has been well looked after and maintained during my ownership.

She still drives, feels and looks amazing.

I have priced the vehicle to reflect the overall condition and works I'd want to do should I have kept the car.
