THIS LISTING IS FOR TWO  POSTERS       MANCE LIPSCOMB AND FRED MCDOWELL

These are original posters from the mid sixties for legendary bluesman MISSISSIPPI FRED MCDOWELL AND MANCE LIPSCOMB. It features a great photo of MISSISSIPPI FRED MCDOWELL playing guitar. It also says "" the finest bottleneck guitar player..." This poster came from the founder of Arhoolie records Chris Strachwitz who had them made to promote performances in the Bay Area. This poster is a show blank. When venues were set up and dates set these were written in or printed in the box in the bottom.  The last picture shows a companion poster that I have listed for Mance Lipscomb the poster in the ART OF ROCK with a venue printed on the poster.

From Wikepedia: McDowell was born in Rossville, Tennessee in 1904. His parents, who were farmers, died when McDowell was a youth. He started playing guitar at the age of 14 and played at dances around Rossville....... The 1950s brought a rising interest in blues music and folk music in the United States and McDowell was brought to wider public attention, beginning when he was discovered and recorded in 1959 by Alan Lomax and Shirley Collins.[7] McDowell's records were popular, and he performed often at festivals and clubs.[8] McDowell continued to perform blues in the North Mississippi blues style much as he had for decades, but he sometimes performed on electric guitar rather than acoustic guitar. While he famously declared "I do not play no rock and roll," McDowell was not averse to associating with many younger rock musicians: He coached Bonnie Raitt on slide guitar technique,[8] and was reportedly flattered by The Rolling Stones' rather straightforward, authentic version of his "You Gotta Move" on their 1971 Sticky Fingers album.

MANCE LIPSCOMB:  Mance Lipscomb was an American blues singer, guitarist and songster. He was born Beau De Glen Lipscomb near Navasota, Texas. As a youth he took the name Mance from a friend of his oldest brother, Charlie. Following his discovery by McCormick and Chris  Strachwitz, Lipscomb became an important figure in the American folk music revival of the 1960s. He was a regular performer at folk festivals and folk-blues clubs around the United States, notably the Ash Grove in Los Angeles, California. He was known not only for his singing and intricate guitar style, but also as a storyteller and country "sage".
