DESCRIPTION

Chinese Canton enamel saucer decorated with a figural scene from the classic drama Romance of the Western Chamber.
The central panel depicts elegantly dressed figures in a garden setting beside a pavilion and pine tree.
A bright pink ground surrounds the scene and is richly decorated with floral scrolls and blossoms.
The reverse is finished in pale turquoise enamel with a raised foot rim.
Despite its condition issues, the piece retains strong decorative appeal and literary interest.
