From the Abstract:
"This is a source book of information about the uniforms and clothing worn during the Revolutionary War by the armed men of the American colonies who comprised the Continental Army. It is well illustrated with 135 figures showing most of the known surviving examples of uniforms and related costume of the period, plus accoutrements, and the known paintings, drawings and sketches of the period showing men in uniform.Initial chapters deal with uniforms of the Continental Army, Continental Artillery, Continental mounted units, staff departments, and miscellaneous infantry units. Uniforms worn by soldiers of each of the 13 colonies are treated in 13 separate chapters. A final chapter covers uniforms of the Continental Navy. Many written descriptions of the uniforms of the Revolutionary period are included as quotations in these chapters. There is a glossary of 18th century clothing terms, an extensive bibliography and an index. This work is a part of The Early American Costume Series."
