Description

A sculptural art glass paperweight with a rounded, flattened oval or lens-like form. The object stands upright with curved sides tapering towards narrower upper and lower edges.

The main body is translucent green glass, appearing darker where the glass is thicker. The surface has a textured, pebbled finish with a glossy surface.

A dark raised glass band runs vertically over the body. This band appears deep purple, brown or near black depending on the light, and follows a slightly wavy line across the surface.

The underside has a smoother dark polished area. It bears engraved inscriptions including “100 years” and “254/300,” with further incised marks or signatures. A circular applied sticker bears a large central “R” and the words “REIJMYRE,” “SWEDEN” and “HANDMADE.”

An accompanying paper invoice is shown, headed “Invoice,” with printed details for “S and J Abbott Ceramics Plus.” The handwritten date appears to read “30 June 2018.” The handwritten description includes wording that appears to read “A Riejmyre paperweight,” “limited ed. 254/300,” and “Pd Cash with thanks.”

Glass paperweights have been made as decorative desk objects since the nineteenth century, with later twentieth-century examples often produced as sculptural art-glass pieces. This example is suitable for use as a paperweight or as a small decorative glass object.
