Antique pillow cover with flap closure is in the Arts & Crafts style, handmade circa the early 1900s. The flap has a striking semi-floral abstract design pattern in thick black, green, blue, and red embroidery over inked brown and green colors; it has no closure. The body of the pillow also has a monogrammed Gothic initial "D" in red embroidery. The fabric is brown linen with typical irregular nubs and slubs. The case has two spots as shown, one under flap and one on back of case opposite it; darker colored linen on one end of the woven fabric, probably from a different thread batch; a small hole on left side of flap as shown; small spot near base. Exterior measurements are about 11" wide x 20" long x 4" deep, with boxy end seams as shown. You'd probably need to make a custom sized pillow for it. We happened to find the same pillow embroidery design on an illustration in the book, The Arts & Crafts Movement in America, 1876-1916. Great piece for an authentic Craftsman, Mission, Arts & Crafts, Adirondack, early 1900s interior decoration scheme.
