From the Estate of Joseph Hayse Goodwin as consigned by his family, this is a once in a lifetime sale. This piece was created by the gifted Joseph Hayse Goodwin, who started working as an artist in the movie studios at age 17. Some of his “Gone With the Wind” artwork was valued on PBS’s Antique Roadshow at between $10,000 - $15,000!

Joseph Hayse Goodwin became a union member who worked for all the major studios and was a concept artist for over 100 feature films, including State Fair, Lost Horizon, and Gone With The Wind. He worked with a cadre of largely unknown artists, the men behind the screen, who created the look and visual feel of American movies. Not all of their artistic ideas would end up in the final films, but concept artists played an essential role in helping directors put film scenes together with effective character placement, visual dynamics and lighting. Their vision and scene staging were often the prime reason for a film's success. It is unknown whether this particular piece was created for a movie studio or for the artist's personal use and enjoyment.
