An iconic piece of British mid-century foundation wear designed to achieve the extreme, sculpted hourglass silhouette popularized by Christian Dior’s 1947 "New Look". Produced by the renowned British manufacturer Leethems (Twilfit) Ltd. of Portsmouth, these garments provided an affordable, high-quality, and structurally rigid alternative to premium custom corsetry brands like Spirella.
The 10" to 11" hip spring was designed to accommodate the classic, dramatic mid-century hourglass silhouette popularised throughout the 1950s and early 1960s.
"Tea Rose" Colourway: While Twilfit utilized tea rose (a distinct, muted peach-pink tone) as early as the 1940s, the combination of dense coutil or jacquard fabrics in tea rose with heavy elastic webbing inserts and a rigid front-busk / rear-lacing system is the textbook definition of Twilfit's 1950s–1960s foundation wear.
This is in amazingly pristine condition having languished in an underwear drawer unopened for decades.
