Poland - Litzmannstadt (Lodz Ghetto) 10 Pfennig 1942 Type-1 coin in magnesium; size: 21.25mm; weight: 0.95g; VF+, ex Guy Franquinet. A mostly clear and sharply stuck coin whose surficial appearance is due to Franquinet's professional storage method to prevent decay of the metal: in very cold temperature & with special substance to protect the surface; as made of gray metal with a semi-reflective surface, the coin does not photograph well in most shades of light but is actually a very attractively struck piece. Franquinet authentication enclosed, he wrote a major book on the subject of the Ghetto's coinage. As the coin's design resembled that of the period German coinage its production was restricted and the coin withdrawn & replaced by the more widely seen type.
