Jerusalem II narrow overprint major discovery: 3 mils stamp with Jerusalem II type narrow overprint, covering 19.25mm height but with undocumented narrow-height 'dwarf' English overprint very similar but shorter in height than the London II overprint & slightly narrower space between the Arabic & English overprints (10.75mm versus 11mm on similar Jerusalem III overprint); 15:14 perforation & postally used, partly tied by 9 -- 1922 dated JAFFA double ring postmark (GD #20, as documented by Dorfman as being used on all the known used copies of the narrow overprinted stamp).

The stamp is shown alongside other similar 3m stamps for comparison in this order from left to right: Jerusalem II (regular stamp), this undocumented narrow setting stamp, a standard narrow setting J-II stamp, and a Jerusalem III type overprinted stamp - and its overprint area is shorter in height than on the other issues, where the narrow space between the Arabic and English is most similar to J-III. The determination that the displayed stamp is Jerusalem II and not Jerusalem III is due to the clarity of the overprint, particularly the Hebrew (J-III Hebrew letters are sharp and crisp, J-II letters are more worn and blunt.

The status of this stamp's usage vis. its overprint and 1922 postal use is presently unknown: the Jerusalem-II issue and its narrow overprint derivative were in use between Dec. 1920 and June 1921, and the Jerusalem-III overprint was in use between May and Aug 1921; London I was issued from Sept 1921 to May 1922 and London II from August 1922 - except the color of the 3 mils denomination changed from red-brown to green-blue with the London II issue. This cataloguer's assesment is that this stamp may be an undocumented interim / trial issue (like the 'narrow overprint' is classified in the literature) sometime between the Jerusalem II and London I issues. Ben-Arieh certificate enclosed.
