Pastel Rainbows over Cartwheel Luster!

1923-S Standing Liberty Quarter

PCGS VF30 (?)

Dripping with luscious mint frost and cartwheel. There is no world in which this is VF-anything. This piece is a Choice AU struck from an advanced die state, with vivid mint bloom and cartwheel luster rolling over the devices and fields, beneath pastel sea foam green, rose, orange, yellow, and cobalt album toning. Luster covers most features, and wear is a thin rub limited to the highest points. The reverse has slightly more handling in the fields, though there is still good cartwheel, and the leading edge of the left-facing wing is crisp, and there is nice definition on those feathers that struck up. This piece looks AU53 over XF45. An XF45 grade would be a good compromise for the blatantly AU obverse. The graders who looked at this might not have realized the strike features of the rare 23-S. I cant imagine a nicer circulated example of this key date. This is a must see coin, but it wont be in stock very long before it goes back in. It's hard to appreciate the stills, but the video doesn't lie.

VF30, and VF35, continue to be some of the most Premium Quality grades we see in slabs. In my opinion, these are used as catch-all grades when they aren't sure what they are looking at.
