| π Description |
Finely carved Chinese Cinnabar style Snuff Bottle featuring dense relief decoration of the Eight Buddhist Symbols amidst scrolling floral motifs over a geometric key-fret ground.
The body is richly textured with layered carving imitating traditional lacquer work, highlighted by a turquoise-tone surface with darker recessed details.
The bottle is fitted with a matching Turquoise Stopper and retains its original spoon.
The intricate carving and symbolic motifs reflect decorative revival pieces inspired by earlier Qing designs. Collectorβs Notes: The Eight Buddhist Symbols (ba jixiang) became widely decorative motifs by the late Qing period and symbolize auspicious blessings. These include: the Conch Shell (dignity and authority), Endless Knot (eternity and wisdom), Lotus (purity), Paired Fish (harmony and fertility), Umbrella (protection), Wheel of the Law (Buddhaβs teachings), Vase (peace and continuity), and Canopy/Bell (spiritual protection). Such symbols made objects like this Snuff Bottle both decorative and imbued with meanings of prosperity, longevity, and good fortune. |
