In the West, June 8, 1944
Dear grandmom and grandpa!
You've probably all heard on the radio that things are starting here in the West. But Tommy (the Brit) is completely wrong about us, just as he's experienced before.

I'm still doing very well, which I hope is also true for you. I believe you received a telegram from Reine in Westphalia a few days ago. I had asked a comrade who went on special leave to send a telegram to mom, as she is currently with you, asking her to prepare a package for me to take with him. I hope it worked out.

I think you've had some peace and quiet with the (enemy) planes lately. I wholeheartedly wish you all the best.

Our order, and therefore also the order of the Führer (Hitler), is to fight, hold out, and die, but we will all master this momentous fate of all time to our very best advantage, and as long as the Führer (Hitler) needs us, we will stand behind him, for he can rely on the soldiers here in the West.

Sending you all my very best greetings and kisses from the bottom of my heart, Günther
