Ludwig Vintage 1976 thru 1982 Standard #600 5" X 14" Chrome-O-Wood Snare Drum. The Ludwig #600 is a 4 ply Maple/Poplar/Poplar/Maple wood shell construction drum made from 1976 thru 1982. Ludwig ceased production of the Standard line of drums by the end of 1982. This drum became the S/L Series L-600 in 1984 and 1985 with the only change being the badge was changed to a Black/White badge. Then in 1986 it became the Rocker L600 with the bowtie lugs and the Black/White badge and the Rocker II L717 with Standard/Rocker Lugs and the Black/White badge and a Granitone coated interior ply. Then in 1988 it also was released as the Rocker L717 with the clear coat interior, Black/White badge and the Rocker/Standard Lugs and also continued to be sold as the Rocker II L717 just as configured in 1986. Needless to say this was a time of great upheaval with this 4 ply shell drum with Ludwig trying to decide exactly how to configure it, what to call it and how to market it.
On this drum the P-85 Strainer Throw-Off was replaced by us with a brand new version silver face P-85 as the black face one was badly damaged. The P-32 Snare Butt appears to be original or at least period correct with block logo. The batter rim appears to be original P21362-R from this time period. The snare side rim is NOT original and not a Ludwig rim I have ever seen or know of. All the P-3052A tension rods appear original as well. The Batter head is a new Evans G12 coated we placed on it (there are some scuffs on the white coating from being out of the box). The snare side head is the original Ludwig X-Thin Clear Snare in good shape with a small amount of duct tape residue on it. The snare wires are fairly new looking generic 20 strand Snappy type snares. The original P-40662, top mounting screw Tone Control Muffler is present and fully functional. The (8) P-2240 Bowtie lugs appear original, have some minor pitting. We did not remove them so just assuming they are original based on condition as they appear appropriately conditioned for 76-82 lugs with the correct factory mounting screws.
The 1982 catalog picture is for reference only and is the only Ludwig catalog picture of a #600 Standard Chrome-O-Wood 5x14 that we could locate.
