DISHSTORY:

She didn’t go looking for these plates. She just looked out her back door.

The foothills start where her pasture ends. In spring the whole thing goes pink and gold and wild — poppies, clarkia, grasses gone to seed. She’s been looking at that view her whole life and never once thought to frame it. Why would she? It’s right there every morning while the coffee brews.

Then she found these plates and stopped cold.

Someone in Japan in the seventies drew exactly what she sees from her kitchen window. The stems, the seed pods, the way the flowers lean. She bought them without thinking twice.

Some things just belong where they land.
