1910 First edition, first printing of the popular edition of The Heart of the Antarctic by Sir Ernest Shackleton, being his first hand account of the British Antarctic “Nimrod” Expedition of 1907-1909. A two-volume edition was published in 1909 followed in 1910 by the one-volume popular edition, a revised edition with a great number of photographic prints from the expedition and four colour illustrations. Very good/good condition. Light foxing mostly just to page edges, small tear to cloth on front side of spine. Faded signature of first owner to front end page, W.R.Broadhurst, possibly the boy who became Major W. R. Broadhurst M.V.O.. The expedition map at the end is in very good condition, it is partly detached as if it has been cut on purpose but is not torn (see photo).
