An original sketch by the Liverpool artist Mary Victoria Jump (1897-1989) - a fine example of Northern art from the early 20th century.

Relatively little is known about this Liverpool born artist, leading to her somewhat enigmatic reputation, though she was highly skilled and noted for her series of nude studies, of which this is a good example.

Mary Victoria Jump studied at both the Liverpool School of Art and the Birkenhead School. 

It is believed that she may also have taught at the Laing School of Art. 

She exhibited in galleries around Liverpool and probably further afield, and she seems to have been quietly successful over a long period of time, painting both figurative and landscape scenes. 

This work dates from the early to mid 20th century and appears to be unsigned, though its provenance is that it was purchased at a studio sale of her work in Birkenhead in 1989, as detailed on the reverse.
