We've been known to entertain the occasional barter — though sheep, goats, cows and camels are in short supply these days. Should you wish to discuss a part-exchange (of the furniture variety, of course), we're always open to a polite proposal.

RETURNS

Dear Epictetus was right. It is not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.

We understand that buying things of such beauty, quality and considerable-value from a distance can sometimes be a challenge, and not every choice proves to be the correct one but, in whatever circumstances prevail, want you to be able to buy in total confidence from Lord Browns Furniture, which is why our returns policy is deliberately simple and generous.

In the unlikely event that you should not be absolutely delighted with your purchase for any (or no) reason upon its arrival, please get in touch at your earliest convenience (and within 14 days of delivery) and we will organise for the piece to be collected and returned for a full refund of the purchase price.

In the event of a return, the buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping the piece back to us and any refund will only be issued once the piece is received back at our HQ.

Obviously and understandably, we insist that all pieces are returned in the same condition in which they were originally sold.

SHIPPING

Careful, considerate shipping is not expensive, it is priceless.

Upon request, we are happy to organise shipping any piece to any UK or International address on behalf of the buyer, with all associated shipping costs to be borne by the buyer.

We ship all pieces using trusted, fully insured, independent couriers, who have long-standing reputations for great customer service, and with whom we personally have successfully shipped hundreds of high-value pieces. Please be aware that shipping costs are set by our couriers and not us and, whilst they may not be the cheapest (we do all we can to secure the best deal possible deal on your behalf) they might, in our experience, possibly be the best. We recommend them to you without hesitation.

UK Buyers are welcome to collect their purchase personally from our storage facility on the edge of Lancashire's beautiful Ribble Valley (BB9 8PH) or to send their courier/representative to do so on their behalf. International buyers are welcome to arrange their own courier. We will be delighted to liaise with you or your representative throughout this process.

Standard UK delivery costs are £240 for a 2-section L-Shape sofa, £180 for a Sofa, and £120 for an Armchair for delivery to the vast majority of mainland addresses. For obvious reasons, deliveries to the extremities of this sceptred isles (Cornwall and the Scottish Highlands, for example) typically attract a 50% surcharge. If in doubt, please contact us for clarification.

All shipping costs secure a two-man delivery service or, on occasion, a one-man service can be organised for a reduced figure but, in those circumstances, the buyer must agree to provide any assistance the courier might need to unload/install any piece at the delivery address.

International buyers are responsible for any/all local customs and duties etc. imposed by the buyer's local customs authorities at the point of arrival in their country, in addition to any shipping costs paid at the time of purchase.

CLEANING

Invariably, the pieces we offer for sale are the best of the best available, presented in superb, beautifully-maintained condition, with their overall condition accurately and transparently described through . That said, please be aware that the vast majority of pieces we offer for sale are pre-owned, and may possess qualities consistent with that fact.

However, should you wish for your purchase to arrive with you in the best condition possible, we are happy to organise for any piece to benefit from a full professional clean, administered by our local Master Upholsterer.

At Lord Browns, we have found the best angle from which to approach issues of this type is the try-angle.

Results post-treatment vary widely, depending on the characteristics of the fabric and the nature of the areas of compromise and, whilst results cannot be guaranteed ( certainly, perfection is an unrealistic expectation), the improvement in the look, feel and odour post-treatment gives the modest investment required (£75 for a sofa, and £35 for an armchair) the appearance of a bargain, and is money well-spent. We recommend this course of action to all buyers without hesitation
