Good advice is to compare measurements found here with measurements of a similar item you already enjoy wearing.  There is so much variation between sizes and brands (and within the same brand) that it may be worth it. Also pre-owned items can have unexpected measurements as compared to the tag (from washing/shrinking, etc.).
