I know little about microscopes, but here goes....This came from a government surplus sale of the U.S. Forestry Service Dept. of Agriculture. Still has the Dept. of Ag inventory sticker on it. Most of that equipment was used in the 1970's and early 80's. I tried to research the age by the serial number and it seems to have been made anywhere from the late 40's up to maybe the 60's, but I couldn't find a definitive answer. Being government owned, I'm sure it was an expensive piece of equipment.
It comes just as pictured, no original case. It is missing the illuminator. Not sure what else might be missing. The eyepiece is 10x. The adjusting knobs all seem to turn. The five objectives are marked as follows:
170/- Phaco10/0.25
170/0.17 25/0.50 P
170/- 6/0.18
170/- 4/0.12 P
170/0.11-0.23 Apo 40/0.95
The Apo and Phaco are high-end research grade objectives and are expensive in themselves, according to research. Knowing where it came from this was a research-grade microscope, lab-used, not student use.
I have no way to test it properly. The objectives don't have visible damage. I held each one up to this computer screen and could see the letting and no visible cracks. The largest has some haziness around the edges, not sure if that is just the magnification or what, but I can still see the lettering on the screen. Not exactly a scientific test, but may help.
It weighs about 22 pounds. Height is almost 16", about 16" long, the base is 10" wide.
What is pictured is how it comes and is how I found it. I did nothing other than dust it off a little. It believe it is an old piece, suitable for a collector, for parts, (just the objectives are expensive), or may be usable with the illuminator replaced. Value is hard to determine. The missing illuminator brings it down, but it is still a research grade instrument with expensive objectives. I'm open to offers. Feel free to message me with any questions. I'll answer best I can.
Shipping may be a bit expensive due to the size and weight and depending on where you are. I'll try and add options for UPS if that works and helps on the cost.
