This box set celebrates the 50th anniversary of Zappa's historic collaboration with his longtime friend Captain Beefheart. This deluxe expanded edition features the two complete Armadillo Headquarters performances that form the album's foundation! It includes 5 CDs, Blu-ray audio (audio only), and a 40-page English and Japanese booklet. Over 80% of the tracks are previously unreleased!
Disc One (CD): The 2012 master of Bongo Fury, Zappa's 1975 album featuring his high school friend Don Van Vliet (aka Captain Beefheart), plus outtakes featuring alternate versions of tracks from the album.
Discs Two-Five (CD): The complete Armadillo Headquarters performances (recorded May 20th and 21st, 1975), which account for seven of the album's nine tracks. Featuring a stellar lineup of musicians including Zappa (guitar/vocals), Beefheart (vocals/harmonica/saxophone), George Duke (keyboards/vocals), Napoleon Murphy Brock (saxophone/vocals), Bruce Fowler (trombone), Tom Fowler (bass), Denny Worley (slide guitar/vocals), and Terry Bozzio (drums), this disc features performances by a unique cast. Disc Five also features rare rehearsal recordings, including songs being officially released for the first time.
Disc Six (Blu-ray [audio only]): The Bongo Fury feature is available in Dolby Atmos, 5.1ch Surround (a brand new mix created by Eric Gobel and Karma Auger at Studio 1LA), and high-resolution stereo mixes at 192kHz/24-bit and 96kHz/24-bit. Bonus features include special mixes of select tracks by Zappa himself.
- English booklet: Includes an essay by Denny Wally, who joined the tour as a new member at the time, looking back on his relationship with Zappa and his memories of the tour, as well as detailed liner notes by Joe Travers.
