On offer is one (1) authentic early twentieth century Japanese magic lantern glass slide, produced by the Underwood & Underwood company of New York. Although Underwood & Underwood was a leading American manufacturer of glass slides, many of their "Oriental" slides are today considered scarce. The photograph is undated but was probably sold between about 1900-1910.
This slide is accompanied by a paper frame bearing the following description:
3936 – Watching an eruption of steam & boiling mud, volcano, Aso-San.
On the left side of the frame is standard copyright information for "UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD, N. Y."
Overall Size: 3.25 in × 4 in
Note that, as is the case with most antique magic lantern slides, the original black tape has lost its adhesion. There may be some loss of tape, and what remains is quite dry and brittle. Regardless, the image itself is safely protected between two glass sheets, and the decorative paper label is fully intact and readable.
Rest assured that your order will be carefully packed to ensure adequate protection during transit.
This slide is being sold individually from a lot of 52 rare Underwood & Underwood Japan Series magic lantern slides. Please take a look at the others on my eBay store—I will gladly combine your shipping for multiple orders!
