This uséd 8.0 lb Fender will ship insured, fully set up, and inspected from Rapid City, SD. This guitar is in very good condition with the kind of wear you'd expect from a well-loved instrument of this vintage — including various dings, scratches, and a worn finish, all naturally obtained. The thumbwheels are slightly “sticky,” and the back of the headstock has small holes from previously installed tuners. This Jazzmaster comes with upgraded tuners and an upgraded bridge; however, the accompanying hardshell case seems to be original and has also racked up a decent amount of wear, including a broken latch.

Introduced in 1958 as Fender’s top-of-the-line solidbody, the Jazzmaster was originally designed to appeal to sophisticated jazz players — but it quickly found a home far beyond its intended audience. By 1962, during Fender’s coveted Pre-CBS era, the Jazzmaster had become a defining voice of innovation, blending offset-body comfort with a uniquely expressive electronics layout. This guitar comes from that golden period complete with quality materials that’ve stood up to decades of aging, making early-’60s Jazzmasters some of the most sought-after vintage Fender instruments in existence today. Initially coveted by surf musicians, the Jazzmaster quickly became a staple instrument for a wide variety of “alternative” genres — from garage rock and grunge to post-punk and shoegaze.
Sonically, this 1962 Jazzmaster delivers a wide, piano-like frequency range that sets it apart from other Fender single-coil guitars. The alder body and rosewood fingerboard produce a warm low end with articulate mids and a glassy, open top end. Its wide, flat single-coil pickups excel at clean and edge-of-breakup tones, offering everything from rich, rounded jazz voicings to surf-approved shimmer, indie jangle, and atmospheric textures. The dual-circuit design allows players to quickly shift between preset rhythm tones and a brighter lead voice, making this guitar incredibly versatile both in the studio and on stage.
Thanks to its offset body and long 25.5" scale, the Jazzmaster is equally comfortable for extended sessions and expressive playing styles. It’s an ideal instrument for surf, indie-rock, hardcore, and experimental-noise players, while also rewarding jazz and Americana musicians who value clarity and dynamic response. With tasteful post-factory upgrades like a Mastery bridge for improved stability and West Germany-era Schaller tuners, this 1962 Jazzmaster retains its vintage soul while offering enhanced reliability for modern use — a true player’s vintage instrument with undeniable collector appeal. Available now at Haggerty’s Music, this guitar ships with a uséd hardshell case.
