A first edition of Grieg and His Music by Henry T. Finck, published in 1909 by the John Lane Company in New York.
Henry T. Finck was a prominent American music critic and author, best known for his writings on Romantic-era composers and for helping introduce European classical music to American audiences in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His books combine biography, criticism, and musical appreciation in an engaging, readable style.
This is a really attractive volume, bound in a handsome blue cloth with striking gold lettering. A classic, elegant book that would look wonderful on a library or music-room bookshelf.
This copy comes from the estate of prominent Washington, D.C.–area music teachers, adding appealing provenance for collectors and musicians.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition overall. The flyleaf is signed by two previous owners, and a bookplate is taped to the inside of the front cover. There is some browning on the endpapers, consistent with age, but the pages themselves are overall clean and readable. Binding is sound. Please review all photos carefully, as they are considered part of the description.
