I bought this truck as in unfinished
body-off restoration project in 2024.
The frame had been sand blasted and painted chassis black, engine (235),
transmission (Chevy Car 3 speed), later truck rear end with open driveshaft,
and brakes had been rebuilt by the previous owner (have receipts). The cab, front clip and bed had been removed
from the chassis.
The five-window cab was dismantled
and media blasted. The cab corners had
some rust and were professionally replaced with reproduction stamped metal panels,
along with a small area in the passenger floor.
The cab was primed, and the interior, cowl, and window openings were
painted factory red, then installed with new body mounts and bolts. Rust-free
rear fenders and driver door were added.
New Parts (with receipts); complete
new 12v Autowire wiring harness, professionally installed; new alternator;
rebuilt starter; Pertronix ignition kit; new gas tank and sending unit; new
headlight and tail light assemblies; wipers converted to 12v; new reproduction
running boards, tailgate with chains, front bed panel, chrome front and rear
bumpers; new windshield and rear glass; all new window rubber; new radiator and
hoses; Best original chrome grille I
have ever seen, with a trace of fine pits and a rare few stone pecks; Deluxe
cab has polished exterior door window stainless and stainless trim in the
windshield rubber.
The engine has an unusual casting
number: 3835911. 235 truck blocks are
supposed to have raised casting numbers on the passenger side, near the
distributor in about the middle of the block.
The 3835911 number on this block occurs as small raised numbers very low
on the passenger side near the front of the engine (see photo 23). An internet search of this number brought up
several references to 1954 Corvette blocks (still a 235 in 1954). However, the serial number on the engine pad
ends in F54X; it would need to end in F54YG to be a Vette block.
Needs; seat upholstery, bed wood kit;
speedometer does not work; tires are old; needs final body work before paint,
OR clear coat it and have the only 7 tone patina truck at the show. It will be a very nice driver-quality
body-off restoration when completed.
Last 10 photos show varying stages of
the restoration; bare frame, media blasted cab, interior paint, assembly
process. Overall shaping up as a very
nice driver quality body off restoration.
Bought another car, this beast must go.
