ESOTERIC ESSJ-90321 CHET BAKER SINGS Vocal and Trumpet Jazz SACD Hybrid

Description

 New

After a relentless search for tapes believed to be the originals, we have succeeded in vividly resurrecting the sound recorded 70 years ago. This is an immortal performance, as only Chet Baker could, fully bringing out the charm of standard songs with his vocals and trumpet. Using these two instruments, he delves into classic standards with his unique, mellow, unpretentious, and sometimes ennui-filled delivery.

■ Chet Baker's masterpiece, capturing the charm of standard songs with his vocals and trumpet.
70 years after its release, this album contains several of his most exquisite vocals and playing, still considered definitive performances. Chet Baker's vocals have been described as slightly languid, "androgynous," and "decadent," but when he sings standard songs, his calm, brave, and unadorned delivery brings out the full potential of the songs, demonstrating a level of completion that resonates with us more than any other singer. The singing is without exaggerated vibrato or raised voice, but upon careful listening, the accuracy of the pitch and skillful phrasing are clearly apparent. This time, in particular, we were able to carry out the best possible remastering, and the more you listen, the more captivating the song becomes, and even now, more than half a century later, the appeal remains as strong as ever, making this a work that we can present with confidence.
