• the tapestry is very faded to brown and sepia tones on the front, and has some fringe loss as shown
• wonderful scene of a Venetian Carnival masquerade and costume ball in a patio garden
• shows dancing and courting couples and a musician in elaborate 18th century court dress, including a Pierrot clown from the Commedia dell'Arte
• it is past midnight, with a crescent moon in the darkened sky, and the revelers have removed their masks
• gondola in foreground and classic dome and tower-topped buildings in the background
