Attractive small hand-blown glass reproduction onion bottle has a replica of the personal round glass seal of George Allsopp, "G Allsopp 1773." It is etched with the maker's business name on the pontil base, La Mailloche, Quebec. The bottle measures 7 3/4" tall x 3 1/2" diameter and holds about 16 ounces. The color is a pale teal. There are bubbles, striations, and other irregularities typical of handcrafted art glass. It was probably made between 1990 and 2009, when the business closed. The bottle is in very good condition and has not been used for any contents, though it could be. George Allsopp (1733-1805) was a Canadian merchant, business owner, and government official in Quebec, and his bottle seal has been identified in archaeological finds. (Original onion bottles would have been larger and made from darker glass, used to hold wine or spirits.)
