Sanford French provincial lingerie chest in green. Lingerie chests, (previously known as "semainiers" stemming from the French word "semaine" which means week) were originally designed to organize delicate clothing articles in the seven drawers for each day of the week. The narrow, compact design prevented smaller delicates from getting snagged, wrinkled, or lost. This particular painted wooden chest stands atop four short, cabriole legs. The chest is a light green color similar to that of patinated copper. The piece has seven drawers of which the uppermost is actually a false drawer that can be revealed by lifting the top. In this false drawer, the compartment is divided into six sections and painted yellow. Each drawer has one brass pull handle with a swirling, leaf-like design. A charming piece that boasts both convenience and style thanks to its slender, tall stature and alluring color.
