One of my favorite designs of all the code talker medals. Front and back.  This beautiful 3" bronze medal from the US Mint honors the Akwesasine Mohawk code talkers from upper New York.
Akwesasne translates from the Kanien'kéha language as "the land where the partridge drums," referring to the sound of the partridge's mating call or the noise of ice on the St. Lawrence River's rapids. It is the name for a specific Mohawk community located on the St. Lawrence River, a unique territory that spans across New York State in the United States, and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec
obverse design features a World War II code talker who spoke his native language to fellow tribe members which was indecipherable to the enemy. In addition, the obverse features a bear, wolf and turtle.  The reverse features a Mohawk Indian in traditional garb with inscriptions of WWI and WWII as this tribe was used in both wars.  Truly impressive design.
