This is a battery charger with a difference, It has the capability of discharging the cell prior to recharging thus limiting the build up of reduced capacity caused by the 'memory  effect'. This really does make a substantial difference in the lifetime of your cell's. Which in turn makes your overall cost lower. Its a 'must have' feature for NiCD/NIMH cell recharging.
