The authors were on the faculty of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.  The authors coined the term "margin of safety" by which they meant the difference between a stock's intrinsic value and its market price.  This textbook remains very influential.  In 1984, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the publication of the first edition, Columbia invited Warren Buffett to give an address on the impact of Graham and Dodd's book.  This speech became the basis for a subsequent article written by the "Sage of Omaha" entitled:  The Superinvestors of Graham-and-Doddsville".
