This is for an original unused ticket for the July 29 1954 fight between Gene Fullmer and Reno Abelliro at West Jordan Park in West Jordan Utah. The other headline bout of the night would be Rex Layne fighting Derris Allee in a 10 round heavyweight bout. Both Fullmer and Layne came from the West Jordan area and the boxing Mormans would fight most of their bouts in the Utah area. Rex Layne was a bit older than Fullmer and was already on the downside of his career at this time. He had defeated former Champions Jersey Joe Walcott and Ezzard Charles, and would be a 9-5 favorite against Rocky Marciano in 1951. Marciano however would knock Layne out in the sixth round when his punch sheered 4 of Laynes teeth off at the gum line and were left to roll around the ring inside of his mouthpiece. On this night Layne would defeat his opponent, Derris Allee who would be fighting the second fight of his career. Future middleweight Champion Gene Fullmer on this night would run his record to 23-0 with a unanimous decision of Reno Abelliro. A rare ticket from a rare time when some well known fighters were fighting in tiny local arenas making their ways both up and down the ladder to earn a paycheck. Ticket is in near perfect condition.
