Thai Royal Anniversary Medal c.1952 – Possible Kings Bhumibol & Prajadhipok – 40mm

Description

Commemorative medal believed to be from Thailand, approx. mid-20th century. Features two male portrait busts on the obverse and Thai script on both sides.

The identification of the two figures is not confirmed, but the portraits closely resemble King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and King Prajadhipok (Rama VII). Buyers should rely on the photos to satisfy themselves.

Obverse:
Two conjoined portrait busts facing right, with Thai text around the edge.

Reverse:
Thai script in three centred lines, surrounded by a decorative border.

Background

The Thai text commemorates an anniversary year.

Translation of the reverse text:

เฉลิม พระนคร ร้อยห้าสิบปี
พ.ศ. ๒๓๒๕–๒๔๗๕

Which translates approximately to:

“Celebrating 150 Years of the Capital
B.E. 2325–2475 (1782–1932 AD)”

This is the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Bangkok, making the medal’s theme highly plausible.

Size is 40mm diameter

Condition - Good overall condition with even toning and light surface marks consistent with age.

Identification of the portrait figures is suggestive only, based on style and period and buyers should judge the medal solely from the images.
