Proof stamps for the 1866 Egyptian issue are RARE,

imperforate TEST printings of the first Egyptian stamps,

These proofs were created to check printing plates and color

before production making them highly valued by collectors



On the first of January 1866
the first set of  7 postage stamps  was issued for Tamghai
It bore Ottoman  empire inscriptions
                                                             denominations  5,10,20 para,      1,2,5,10 piasters

                                  Egypt is the oldest country in the world with a postal system
and is  the 3rd country in the world to issue postage stamps/
  in 1866  during the reign of  Khediv ISMAEL
