DESCRIPTION & ANALYSIS The military is clearly a very popular choice for commemorative coin issues as the 5-Star Generals commemorative coins were the sixth series since 2010 honoring the military. However, it is clear the public wasn't interested as sales were not very swift. The program included clad half dollars, silver dollars, and $5 gold coins, which only sold 11%, 20%, and 21% of their maximum mintages respectively. However, the program still managed to raise over $2 million for the United States Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC). This school is nation's oldest and largest military staff colleges. All five of the 5-Star generals honored on the three coinage issues either taught at or attended the CGSC.
